Become a referee
South Sydney Referees have
completed their Level 1 courses for this year but are actively
recruiting people interested in training to become referees in 2009. If
you’ll be aged 14 years and older in March 2009, male or female, have
played or have never played, we’ll provide you with all the training to
get you on the field at the start of the season.
Training is conducted in
accordance with the ARL’s National Refereeing Accreditation Scheme.
Beginning referees will be provided with a workbook along with the laws
for International and Modified games. Having studied these, candidates
will complete their Level 1 Referees Course over 2 weekend days and one
weekday night. Candidates will then begin refereeing under the watchful
eye of an experienced mentor, who will provide them with feedback and
suggest areas for further development. After having had a number of
written assessments on your refereeing ability, you will be awarded a
Level 1 Referees Accreditation.
Development of our referees is
ongoing. As part of this process, weekly skills and fitness sessions
are held at Snape Oval, Kingsford on Tuesday nights during the season,
except on the Tuesdays that our meetings are held.
The Association covers the cost
of your training, should you go on to referee for the remainder of the
year. Joining the Association will cost you $100 annually. This $100
membership fee can be deducted from your end-of-season match payments
and provides you with a number of social activities throughout the
year.
